Coach Harris and family

De Queen Public Schools has named Jimmy Harris as the new head baseball coach for the Leopards. Harris brings 24 years of head coaching experience, 643 career wins, and an established reputation for developing collegiate and professional athletes.

Harris played football at Haskell Indian Junior College and Dana College before earning his degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. During his coaching career, he has helped 70 former players advance to college baseball. Three of his athletes were drafted out of high school, six were drafted out of college, and two have reached the Major Leagues. His accomplishments include coaching the 2017 second-round MLB Draft pick to the Colorado Rockies and Jackson Holliday, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.

Harris has led teams to 14 conference championships, 11 district championships, 13 regional championships, and 18 state tournament appearances. His programs were state runners-up in 2009 and 2025, semifinalists in 2016 and 2024, and state champions in 2010, 2011, and 2012 at Shiloh Christian in Springdale, Arkansas, and in 2014 at Stillwater High School. His first season at Stillwater resulted in a 32–4 record and the school’s first 6A Oklahoma State Championship in 57 years, earning multiple national rankings.

De Queen Athletic Director Richard Bell said, “De Queen has always had a great tradition on the baseball diamond, not only with great players, but also with coaches. Harris has spoken at coaching clinics across four states and is an 11-time Conference Coach of the Year. His honors include the 2009 ABCA/Diamond Sports Region 6 Division III Coach of the Year and the 2012 ABCA/Diamond Sports National High School Division III Coach of the Year. He currently serves as chair of the ABCA All-American, Coach of the Year, and Gold Glove Committee, and is a former president of the Arkansas High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Harris and his wife, Laci, have been married for 25 years and have three children: Ashton, 21; Jackson, 18; and Cooper, 16.
