De Queen High School senior Caleb Herweck was named Film Editor of the Year for Large Schools at the Arkansas Scholastic Press Association State Conference held in Springdale this past weekend, recognizing him as the top student film editor among schools competing in the 5A–7A division across Arkansas.
Caleb is completing his third year in the DQTV program and has been instrumental in the success of the student-led broadcast program, especially during his senior year. He is the creative editor behind many of DQTV’s sports hype videos, feature projects, and other published productions that have helped define the program’s visual storytelling.
To earn the Film Editor of the Year title, Caleb submitted a written essay along with a portfolio showcasing his work from the 2025–2026 school year. His submission highlighted a variety of projects, including sports hype videos, creative editing pieces, and film production work that demonstrated both technical skill and storytelling ability.
In addition to being named Film Editor of the Year, Caleb also earned an Excellent rating for his documentary submission and received a Superior rating along with the Best of ASPA award for Short Narrative Film, a project he created with fellow student Rusty Bermeo and Atrek Rayphand.
Caleb’s passion for film has already opened doors for his future. He will attend John Brown University this fall, where he plans to major in film. He also earned a scholarship to the university by competing in a film contest, where he submitted a documentary that he solely filmed and edited.
“Caleb has been a major leader in this program and has played a huge role in helping DQTV grow,” said Tiffany Williamson, DQTV Instructor. “I am so proud of him and all he has accomplished. He has set a high standard through his work ethic, creativity, and leadership. While I hate to see him go, I am excited to see what his future holds because I know he is just getting started.”
